Diego’s Baptism

Hey yall!
Hope it’s been a good week because it’s been a great week here! First, we have a lesson with this family we’re teaching and we put all 5 of them on date for baptism! We’re really excited for them! Our friend Johnathan and our friend Carlos came to church this Sunday and both only need to come one more time and then they are ready for baptism!
Johnathan will most likely come to church this week again and be baptized that following week. Carlos works one week on week off so we have some time to wait for him but he is super responsive and wants to learn more! He actually came to Elders Quorum with us and stayed the whole time and asking questions in it! And last on Sunday we had Diegos baptism! It was such a great day and his Nephew who was a recent convert got to baptize him!
A scripture from this week for yall is in 1 Nephi 17:13 “And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led” if we do what I right and follow his commandments we can have his light and he will lead us! Love yall and I have you have a great week!-Elder Ehrhart

Letter from our Elder

Hey guys, I hope it’s been a great week for y’all.  It sure has been a great week here! I’ll just recap the days, on Tuesday we meet with one of our amigos named Jonathan! He’s a really great guy and lives alone here in Calama so he has been pretty lonely. When we first called, he was super happy to hear from us! We have been meeting with him about 2 or 3 times a week and he is going be baptized on the 18th of September!
On Wednesday we had a lesson with Jair and his whole family. They are all from Colombia and moved here for a better life! We taught them the plan of salvation and read 3rd Nephi 11 with them all and now they are on date for September 28th! The only concern we have with them is they need to get married.
On Thursday we were street contacting all day and came across a mother and her daughter. We asked them if we could share a message with them and they said “yeah, let’s go to my house over there”! So when we got in there house we found out that her daughter has not been feeling good for the past month and we offered to give her a blessing! After that we taught them the restoration of the Gospel and found out their whole family fled from Bolivia!
In the lesson something really special that happened was after I said the First vision we just sat there in silence for a good 5 seconds and just let the experience set in! After, we asked her how she felt and she said that it was a feeling she has never had before! So we explained to her that it was the Holy Ghost and how if you are baptized you can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and have it forever and she asked us how she could get it!
We put her and her daughter on date for 25th! And last but not least we had an amazing lesson with Diego! We went over the 10 commandments and all the laws and after his nephew gave an amazing testimony about the blessings of keeping the laws! And Next Sunday his nephew is gonna baptize him!
And the last person I’ll talk about is this woman

we meet on Sunday while we were street contacted on our way to church name Ilda and her two daughters they were shopping at one of the outside meat markets and we starting talking to them and they ended up coming to church with us! He have a lesson with them tonight! It’s been a good week here in Calama! Hope yall have a great rest of your week!-Elder Ehrhart

I moved to Calama

Hey yall,
I hope it’s been a good week! Sorry I didn’t write an email last week but for those of you who don’t know I left Antofagasta and im now in Calama!

It has been such a great week and my new comp Elder Alley is such an awesome guy! He is from Dallas Texas and was serving in Virginia before getting here and from how he talks about his mission, it sounds alot like how mine was in Tennessee!
The work has been going really great here! We have really been focusing on street contacting and Elder Alley is super good at it so he’s been a real good help for me! Something really amazing this week was we meet with a guy named Diego and read 3 Nephi 11 with him and after it he told us that he thinks he needs to be baptized! So he’s on date for the 4th of September!
I can’t believe its almost the end of August and school is starting up again! Time here has really been Cruz in lately! For my scripture this week ill put in the scripture Diego said was his favorite part of
3 nephi 11 23. Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your words, and desireth to be baptized in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them—Behold, ye shall go down and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them.24. And now behold, these are the words which ye shall say, calling them by name, saying:25. Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

I love yall and I hope you have a great week!

Baptisms coming soon!

Hey y’all,
Hope you guys had a great week! This week has been such a good one! So last Sunday a family that we are teaching invited us over to give there kids blessings and when we got there they had invited 3 other families with there kids to get blessings! It was really one of the coolest experiences I have had so far! We gave no joke about 11 blessings!
On Tuesday me and my Companion packed up all our stuff and moved it back to my old apartment, so now we’re with the Angamos Elders! On Wednesday one of the Angamos members needed some help with service but before we did the service he gave us a huge tour of Antofagasta! We got to see La Portada which is like the Chilean Delicate Arch, and a huge stone hand in the middle of the desert, and some ruins! The service we did was actually super sweet, he is a botanist and lives in Conception for the summers in Chile and moves to Antofagasta for the winters and has a plant nursery which is crazy because Antofagasta is literally all sand! So we just crashed mulch and put it in bags and helped with seeding! After that me and my Comp had another great lesson with Kati and Arianna and set up a baptism date for Arianna on the 15th of August and Kati in December when she gets married! We also had Another super great lesson with a girl named Ivette! She is 21 and has lived in Antofagasta her whole life! We had a lesson with her and now she is also on date for the 15th of August! Pretty amazing, and to end the day we got to eat Ice cream and cake and burn a shirt for my first year in the mission! On Thursday we had another lesson with Ivette and gave her a tour of the church and that went so good! She is super excited for her baptism so that’s awesome! The next 3 days we have another lesson with Kati and Arianna and 2 more lessons with Ivette! And on Sunday we had 10 people at church and 4 people watch online! It was so great! And that night we were in charge of a Facebook live for our zone page and that also went really well! All and all it has been super a great week! A scripture that I have been thinking alot about this week I in Alma 29:9 “I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.” I love guys and I hope y’all have a great week!-Elder Ehrhart

One Year Mark!

Hey guys!
I hope y’all are doing good, by this time next year I will be home! Some days it seems to be going by fast and sometimes it feels like I have been doing this forever!
It’s been another great week here! So on Thursday we got permission to go on an exchange with the Elders serving in Taltal Chile, Taltal is about a 4 hours bus ride from Antofagasta! It was super cool, it’s a little old fishing town and it is full of abandoned mine shafts! Our exchange was super great and I was with a Missionary named Elder Laforce. He’s from Colorado and has been a member for 1.5yr and just hit his 6 months in the mission so he is really just a huge example and has really strengthened my testimony!
He’s a hard worker and you can tell he’s out here for the right reasons! On our exchange we got to visit a few families in their branch and had a family home evening with la Familia Sanchez! They are super funny and were cracking jokes the whole time so it was really great!
Something really cool… the dad is a professional scuba driver and catches all kinds of fish! So he was showing us all his spears and equipment! After that we went back to the Elder’s house and they have a Mamita which is literally a lady who lives above them and makes all their food! She had a huge dinner waiting for us! I wish we had a Mamita in Antofagasta haha!
After that we taught 2 English classes at the church! The next morning we were planning on going back home but they told use that because we don’t have paper work that says we got vaccinated they were making us stay another day which I was totally down for!
Nice not having to worry about Cockroachs for another day! We had a great lesson with one of our investigators named Alex, he actually came to church and we walked the 2 miles there with him and 2 back so that was a great opportunity to talk! We’re hopefully going to start teaching him a bunch! We have really been hammering contacts and have set up like 15 lessons a week! It’s super great practice for me! My Spanish is improving, poco a poco.
I hope y’all have a great rest of you week and I’ll see you soon!-Elder Ehrhart

Dog Attack 🐕

Hey y’all, I hope you guys had a great week! It’s been a pretty crazy week here. We had our first in person Zone Conference in over a year, interviews with President, my first dog attack!
I’ll just knock out each event for y’all, so on Tuesday we got a call from the APs that we just got the thumbs up for our first in person Zone Conference so because my mission is the 2nd largest mission in the world, everyone from is 15-3 hour bus ride to get to Antofagasta! Luckily for me I’m still in Antofagasta so no traveling for me!
The night before we got a knock at our door and it was one of my good friends Elder Laforce and his comp! So that was great talking to him and seeing how his been doing. Then, like an hour later, we get a knock at our door and there are like 14 Elders! So that was a super loud and crazy night but we all made it through and had Zone Conference the next morning!
Any opportunity I get to see President and Hermana Larsen it’s always so great! Before they walked in we all stood up and President told us that he wants us all to line up in rows and for all the Elders, President would give a huge bear hug and for the Hermanas, Hermana Larsen would give them a hug! You can really tell how much they love and care about each of us!
Zone Conference was really great, we talked alot about how important our purpose as missionaries really is in God’s work! That was a pretty much all day thing! The next day we had meetings with president again so I got to be with president alot this week!
Now, on to the dog attack! So my area is at the very top of Antofagasta so it’s one of the poorest areas in the mission…so that means, a ton of dogs! So we’re going to this lady’s house named Patricia and about 40 yards in front of us is this big,  mean, black dog. Usually the dogs are pretty chill because they see so many people all the time but we could both tell this one was going to be different! My comp whispers in my ear “En la cuenta de tres corremos” on the count of three we run! So he books it into the back of a parked truck bed and I tried to run right past but the dog knew what I was going to do so it ran over to me and bit a huge hole in my pants! Right on the side of my leg but I did get a pretty swift kick right in its muzzle. Honestly tho it was a huge miracle because it gave my comp time to grab a hand full of rocks and scare it away! But the craziest and most amazing part of the whole thing was the dogs teeth didn’t penetrate or rip though my garments! Really just opened my eyes on how much they really do protect! Well that was all alot but I hope you guys had a great week!

I’ll talk to y’all soon!-Elder Ehrhart

Transfers

Well it’s been a crazy week here! On Wednesday we had meetings with Pres! I absolutely love Pres and sister Larsen so it was great getting to talk with them again!
Our mission is focusing and going over alot of obedience rules which is actually a really good thing! President has been asking the Gringos to talk about what perfect obedience looks like because we served in the states and compared to how it was in the states to here, it’s a pretty drastic difference in obedience!
I’m really excited for how this will change the mission and the work! Another thing that happened this week, we had transfers! I’m going to be staying in Antofagasta and my companion Elder Quinteros is going up to Iquique! My new companion is going to be Elder Concha and from what I have heard about him he sounds like a great guy!
Another plus is Elder Moreno is also staying in Antofagasta so we can keep playing basketball in the mornings! I honestly can’t believe I have been in Chile for 3 months and am going to be hitting my year soon! A lot of things are happening here in Chile! I have been going from  excited to nervous on almost daily basis because of all the changes but hopefully everything will turn out! I’ll end this with a scripture from this week in 1 John 4:7-9 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” I can testify that God is love and that He has a perfect plan for each of us! Remember always love one another just as your Savior Jesus Christ has loved you! I hope y’all had a great week and I’ll talk to yall soon!

Tsunami and Riots

Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing great! It’s been another good week here in Chile. We had a couple lessons this week and did another exchange with our zone leaders so that was really great! On Friday night a ton of sirens went off and alot of our ward members called us and said to not go anywhere near the water because a Tsunami was coming😱 So it was pretty crazy to see all the people who live by the ocean, or homeless living on the beach, running to high ground! On Saturday a mob of protesters burnt down a catholic church and some houses! So, Antofagasta has been pretty CRAZY this week! During our exchange one of the zone leaders members called us and said they wanted all 6 of us to come eat and play games! That was super fun! Well, sorry the email is so short this week, I’ll throw in a scripture from this week that I really liked! It’s in 2 Nephi 4:15 “And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.” When I read this scripture it just made me think how amazing it is that a book written more than 2000 years ago was made for me in these days! I couldn’t have my amazing life with out it! I love yall and I hope you guys have a great week! -Elder EhrhartSent via the Samsung Galaxy S10e, an AT&T 5G Evolution capable smartphone

Hey guys! It’s been a great week! Highlights from this week, so on Wednesday we got a new referral from a guy named Fernando. Right when we called him he told us how grateful he was to be talking to us and that he wants to be baptized! So that was pretty crazy! Through out this week we have been really hammering out lessons and calling people so that’s been really great! Antofagasta went into stage 3 for Covid…now we can do in-person Church! The only bad thing about it is our church is about 3.5 miles away in a desert! It’s super hot and we have to wear our suits so that was hard. But it was nice and overcast so hopefully next week will be the same! This email has been kinda short but I hope y’all had a great week! I’m still trying my best each week with my Spanish so hopefully it comes quickly! I’ll leave y’all with a scripture from this week, it’s Jacob 3:1 “But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction.” I absolutely love this scripture! Always remember to look unto God no matter what it may be! I love you and I hope your upcoming week is great!-Elder EhrhartSent via the Samsung Galaxy S10e, an AT&T 5G Evolution capable smartphone
